Gear dynamicsSpin-off of Politecnico di Torino

Precision isdesigned.

Accurate, quiet transmissions that last: design, optimise and validate them before the prototype.

LoA · Line of action
The orange line in the drawing: the path along which the teeth of the two wheels touch and push each other.
TE · Transmission error
The gap between real and perfect motion, a few micrometres: the first source of gear noise and dynamic overloads.
GeDy TrAss
Computes it quickly for every micro-geometry: try many designs and pick the quietest and most durable before the prototype.

Why we exist

Calculation, CAD, FEM, prototype. One problem with noise, accuracy or wear and you start all over again. We bring dynamics into the design phase, when changes still cost little.

Lab · Try it yourself

A few micrometres make the difference.

A few µm of micro-geometry decide accuracy, noise and service life. Move the tip relief and look for the minimum of the transmission error, the gap between real and perfect motion. Then watch the dynamic factor across the speed range: the right relief flattens the resonance, so the teeth carry less overload, wear less and backlash grows more slowly. Press Listen to hear the mesh order of this pair.

Kv is the maximum dynamic mesh force divided by the static force, in steady state during a slow run-up. The tall peak is the mesh resonance; the smaller ones below it are super-harmonic resonances, at about 1/2 and 1/3 of that speed. In ISO 6336 this factor multiplies the tooth load in the bending and pitting ratings: a lower peak means lower stresses, less wear and backlash that grows more slowly.

Synthesised gear whine. Turn the volume down before you press it.

Transmission error 7.3 µm peak to peak, 0.0 dB compared with the unmodified gear. Dynamic factor 1.17 at this speed, peak 3.23 @ 15,800 rpm.

Simplified model: steel spur pair z₁ 23, z₂ 37, m 3, b 20 mm, linear tip relief, tooth pair and mesh stiffness as in ISO 6336-1, exact corner contact outside the path of contact. Dynamics with one degree of freedom along the line of action, contact loss and damping ratio 0.07. It shows the physics, it is not the GeDy TrAss solver.

What we do

Three ways to work with us

A tool, a team of engineers, a training path: for every phase of transmission design.

S.01 · SaaS platform

Design gears 10 times faster

A cloud platform built on patented numerical methods: from requirement to validated design, with strength, dynamics and noise computed during design. It plugs into your existing CAD / CAE workflows.

Origin

Born in a lab. Built for production.

The method comes from years of research on high performance components with automotive and aerospace companies, in the DIMEAS department of Politecnico di Torino.

  1. 2017The research group is born in DIMEAS, Politecnico di Torino.
  2. 2018Pre-incubated in I3P. Among the six best start-ups in Piedmont and Aosta Valley.
  3. 2019Innovation 4.0 prize at Automation & Testing. GeDy TrAss S.r.l. is founded in May.
  4. 2020Recognised as a Politecnico di Torino spin-off in January. The test bench for the static transmission error is presented at SAE.
  5. 2022-24The methods are published in Nonlinear Dynamics, Vibration and at ASME IDETC and SEM IMAC. In 2024 we take part in MOVE in London.
  6. 2025The software becomes a web platform. Talk “From Bit to Bulk” at City Tech, CUNY, in New York.
  7. TodayThe SaaS platform is open at app.gedytrass.com. In 2026 we pitched at Access 2 Finance and took part in the ePowertrain Tech Summit and Wave by Vento.
