Tip relief and gear dynamics
A spur gear pair, computed in your browser with a simplified model. Change tip relief, torque and speed and see how the dynamic factor and the transmission error change.

Three mesh cycles in steady state at the chosen speed, from the same simulation as the chart above. The highest point is Kv. Where the curve drops to zero the teeth separate.
Kv is the ratio between the maximum tooth force and the static force, in steady state during a slow run-up. The highest peak is the mesh resonance; the smaller peaks at about 1/2 and 1/3 of that speed are super-harmonic resonances. In the ISO 6336 bending and pitting ratings the tooth load is multiplied by this factor.

Sound synthesised at the mesh orders of this pair. Turn the volume down first.
Transmission error 7.3 µm peak to peak, 0.0 dB compared with the unmodified gear. Dynamic factor 3.23 at this speed, peak 3.23 @ 15,800 rpm.
Simplified model: steel spur pair z₁ 23, z₂ 37, m 3, b 20 mm, linear tip relief, tooth pair and mesh stiffness as in ISO 6336-1, exact corner contact outside the path of contact. Dynamics with one degree of freedom along the line of action, contact loss and damping ratio 0.07. It shows the physics, it is not the GeDy TrAss solver.
With GeDy TrAss
From the demo to your gears
Here you change one parameter on an example pair. With the GeDy TrAss platform and our consulting you design your transmissions keeping dynamic factor, transmission error and tooth loads under control from the design stage: sizing, rating to ISO 6336 and ISO 10300, layout and tooth profile.
May the torque be with you
